Point of Sale Cash Drawer Opening Device which is used to open Sharp Cash Drawers, or their equivalent.
This Cash Drawer Opener is for use on any IBM Compatible Computer and is unique in that it is activated using the computers parallel port, but in doing so, it does not exclude the normal usage of a printer on the same port. In other words, the Cash Drawer Opener is plugged into a parallel port of a computer, and the printer is plugged into the Cash Drawer Opener. The advantage of this is that a Serial or Parallel Port is not tied up and they can be used for other purposes such as printing, scanning etc.

Apart from opening the cash drawer, it is also possible to read back the state of the Cash Drawer Open Microswitch thereby providing a measure of security against the illegal opening of the drawer. This feature is what gives this Cash Drawer Opener an advantage over other types of openers. The device only requires mains power, 230 Volts AC, to operate.

Your software would be required to supply the code to activate the Cash Drawer Opener and a sample of this, written in Turbo Pascal 7, could be made available if required. The reason for having a separate Cash Drawer Opener, rather than the type that is built into the printer, is that the "weakest" component in a Point of Sale system is the printer and if the printer fails then it is not possible to use the cash drawer. Our system would allow continued use of the cash drawer, even without a printer attached.
We have manufactured over 1500 of these Cash Drawer Openers over the last 4 years and they have proven to be very reliable over this time. Current Software that includes the code to operate these Cash Drawer Openers are: Cashlink POS, CSoft POS and Software supplied by Input Computing Ltd.
